Awareness programs for the public

A session on awareness about frauds and unauthorized deposit acceptance by unincorporated bodies (UIBs) was delivered by Market Intelligence Cell, Kanpur in consumer awareness programme “Be Aware (जाने-अनजाने)” organized by RBI, Kanpur at Jhansi on November 10, 2017. The programme was conducted for customers of banks in Jhansi. Around 70 participants including customers and officials of leading commercial banks were present during the programme. The information on various methods of raising money from public and agencies regulating different entities was shared. The customers were cautioned about UIBs and their activities, fraudulent loan business, fake e-mail / SMS offering prize money, lottery; working of MLM / Ponzi Schemes, wrongful use of RBI logo, RBI NBFC CoR, RBI Governor picture / name, etc. The participants were also made aware about the functions of SACHET website with regard to reporting a complaint with the concerned regulator. In addition, the facility to share information about fraudulent entities and their schemes on SACHET website was also explained in detail. The participants were apprised about initiatives taken by RBI Kanpur to spread awareness by publishing press release / advertisment against illegal entites / MLM and Ponzi Schemes; andsending awareness SMS. The programme was well received by all the participants and officials of leading commercial banks.
